Hornibrook 2020 ~ Postponed until 2021

The Hornibrook event scheduled for Sydney 11 to 16 Oct 2020 has been cancelled see the details below received from MBE Golf Sydney

It is proposed to hold this event next year details will be advised in due course.

Our own events schedule is on hold until further notice.

  1. “Sponsors -  We don’t think it is wise to promote this event and not give our sponsors the best possible avenue to obtain return from their investment, also it would be extremely difficult to find additional sponsors at this time
  2. Players -        We expect it to be extremely hard for players to commit to our event at this time, either due to health reasons or financial capacity during these coming months when a decision must be made.
  3. Crown plaza   The hotel is being flexible with our contract and have offered us the opportunity to  postpone our event until next year, subject to availability.
  4. Coronavirus    Listening to the so called experts we are looking at a minimum  6 months shutdown of normal living conditions where one can expect to be freely able to visit restaurants and clubs , hold functions and play golf in normal operating conditions and feel 100% safe in doing these activities.

Taking into consideration all of the above points we have decided to cancel this years event and the responses already received from state captains gives us the approval to hold the event next year same time and same location and hopefully same golf courses. We will also have to advise you on any cost changes that may occur.

Some people might think we are calling this too early but our best chance of holding a successful event will be next year not this year.”

Good evening members,

It is with great sadness that I advise of the passing of long time past member of the Newcastle Master Builders Association Golf Club, George Buckton.

George unexpectedly passed away this afternoon.  Further details are not available at the time of writing.  George was 87.

George was a strong supporter of the MBA golfing fraternity having attended 16 M R Hornibrook Cup National Golf Tournaments.  He was a friend to all and will be sadly missed by all who enjoyed his company.

In addition to our thoughts being with George’s family, we also extend sympathy to his regular Belmont Club golfing mates with whom he had a very strong golfing relationship until 18 months ago when health issues necessitated his withdrawal from regular golf.

Greetings all.

It is my sad duty to report that George Christopoulos has died overnight. I understand he was moved into Mary Potter Hospice early last week but took a turn for the worse last night.

George was an extremely hard worker for MBA Golf. He was our immediate past captain. He attended 18 Hornibrooks before his recent illness. The last being in Hobart in 2017.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday 13th November at 11am at The Church of St George 60 Rose St Thebarton.

There will be a brief committal service at 1pm in the Florey Chapel Centennial Park.

This will be followed by a wake at Alexandra's (his daughter) place at Panorama. Address to be advised.

The Club is arranging a tribute in The Advertiser this week.

Our thoughts go out to Christine, Alexandra and his extended family.
